This is a disk mapping software, it can map drives residing physically on one drive to logical drives connected to different machines.
iFlyDisk is a virtualized disk mapping software. It can map disks/RAID disks on a computer. The disk may actually be a disk image on another machine. The virtual disk can be used like a local drive. It is fast, safe, reliable as well as convenient. The virtual, mapped disk can be partitioned, formatted and other file operations carried of as if these were local drives. In any such virtualized environment, typically, the foremost concern usually is about performance. The tool is able to get around that. I/O transfer speeds at 8 MB per second to 12 MB per sec can be achieved easily in a 100 MB LAN configuration. The software works with Windows versions including 2000/XP/2003/Vista operating system as well as Server 2008.
The security of the original disk is maintained. There is a provision of three different modes, precisely for this purpose. These are the full access mode, protected mode and refuse/deny. The full access mode is obvious. The file mapping would not allow the files to be modified, moved or deleted. The refusal mode provides for connection requests from some clients to be refused completely. The full access and protected modes have further authentication through passwords. With the performance issue taken into account and the protections provided between users and systems this tool works well for the disk sharing situations. The interface is clean and intuitive. If you do have situations where disks need to be shared, this could be quite a handy solution.
